The Senate considered President Biden’s nomination of Michael Regan to serve as the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA and its leader are charged with protecting human health and the environment – our air, water, and land. As the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Secretary, Regan gained invaluable experience, from confronting pollution from runoff from hog farms and toxic PFAS chemicals in drinking water to negotiating an historic coal ash settlement with Duke Energy. He has received bipartisan praise for his record of engaging stakeholders to build consensus and fighting for environmental justice for communities exposed to toxic pollution. On March 10, the Senate confirmed Regan to be EPA Administrator by a vote of 66-34, becoming the first Black man to serve as EPA Administrator (Senate roll call vote 116).
