Wright Confirmation (Secretary of Energy)
Senate Roll Call Vote 30
Issue: Dirty Energy

The Senate considered President Donald Trump’s nomination of Christopher Wright to serve as Secretary of Energy. The Department of Energy is charged with overseeing the country’s energy and environmental policy with a focus on transformative science and technology solutions. Wright most recently was the CEO and Chairman of the world’s second largest fracking company and would be overseeing his own industry. He has no government experience and has been a staunch advocate for fossil fuels despite their devastating health and environmental impacts. Wright has questioned the validity of climate science and stoked misinformation. He attended the April 2024 oil and gas executives dinner, during which then-candidate Trump reportedly asked oil and gas executives for $1 billion toward his campaign in exchange for rolling back environmental protections. On February 3, the Senate confirmed Christopher Wright to be Secretary of Energy by a vote of 59-38 (Senate roll call vote 30). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
