2021 Scorecard Vote
The Senate considered President Biden’s nomination of Katherine Tai to serve as the United States Trade Representative (USTR). Throughout her tenure as Chief Trade Counsel for the House Ways & Means Committee, Tai demonstrated a strong commitment to working collaboratively with environmental and labor groups to ensure U.S. trade policy actually benefits workers and protects the environment. Consistent with the Biden administration’s whole-of-government approach to tackling the climate crisis, Tai recognizes the responsibility and opportunity the USTR has to encourage a global “race to the top” on climate action while also creating and sustaining good jobs. With a history of fighting for justice and fairness, Tai’s leadership is essential to move our trade policy forward in a way that lifts up communities and workers and creates a more just, equitable, and cleaner economy. On March 17, the Senate confirmed Tai as the United States Trade Representative by a vote of 98-0, becoming the first Asian American and first woman of color to serve in the position (Senate roll call vote 123). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
