Tai Confirmation (United States Trade Representative)
Senate Roll Call Vote 123
Issue: Other

The Senate considered President Biden’s nomination of Katherine Tai to serve as the United States Trade Representative (USTR). Throughout her tenure as Chief Trade Counsel for the House Ways & Means Committee, Tai demonstrated a strong commitment to working collaboratively with environmental and labor groups to ensure U.S. trade policy actually benefits workers and protects the environment. Consistent with the Biden administration’s whole-of-government approach to tackling the climate crisis, Tai recognizes the responsibility and opportunity the USTR has to encourage a global “race to the top” on climate action while also creating and sustaining good jobs. With a history of fighting for justice and fairness, Tai’s leadership is essential to move our trade policy forward in a way that lifts up communities and workers and creates a more just, equitable, and cleaner economy. On March 17, the Senate confirmed Tai as the United States Trade Representative by a vote of 98-0, becoming the first Asian American and first woman of color to serve in the position (Senate roll call vote 123).
