Anti-Environment Spending Package
House Roll Call Vote 399
Issues: Appropriations, Climate Change, Clean Energy, Clean Air, Clean Water, Environmental Justice, Other

Representative Mike Simpson (R-ID) sponsored H.R. 8998, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2025, which would cut spending on environmental programs to the lowest levels in decades, including a 20% cut to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It would completely zero out spending on environmental justice programs and stymie basic clean air and water protections and environmental cleanup programs. It would mandate fossil fuel lease sales and imperil critically endangered species, among dozens of other extreme and damaging provisions. It would also block funding for landmark climate achievements under the Biden-Harris administration, including the American Climate Corps’ historic job-creation program, the immensely impactful Methane Emissions Reduction Program, and more than a dozen critical climate and public health rulemakings and executive orders, such as those limiting pollution from power plants and vehicles. On July 24, the House approved H.R. 8998 by a vote of 210-205 (House roll call vote 399). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
