2023 Scorecard Vote
Representative Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) sponsored an amendment to H.R. 1, the so-called Lower Energy Costs Act, which would require the comptroller general to conduct a study to assess the sufficiency of the environmental review processes for offshore wind projects. This bad faith amendment implies that there have been insufficient environmental reviews for offshore wind projects, when the truth is that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is already required to perform substantial environmental reviews, which the environmental community supports. This unnecessary and duplicative study is simply meant to slow the deployment of a critical clean energy technology and delay the transition away from dirty fossil fuels to the affordable clean energy economy. On March 30, the House approved the Van Drew amendment by a vote of 220-213 (House roll call vote 180). The House passed H.R. 1 on March 30. The Senate took no action on this legislation.
