2024 Recent Vote
Representative Bill Huizenga (R-MI) sponsored H.R. 4790, the so-called Prioritizing Economic Growth Over Woke Policies Act, which is a package of four bills designed to allow publicly traded corporations to ignore the risks of climate change to their investors by attacking corporate transparency, investor access to information, and undermining investors' voice in corporate policy. Among other things, H.R. 4790 would limit the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC’s) authority to ensure investors have access to information necessary to make sound investment decisions and would empower companies to withhold disclosures on anything they deem as immaterial, such as risks from climate change to their business and investors. Additionally, H.R. 4790 would make it easier for corporations regulated by the SEC to influence its decision making by creating a corporate advisory committee to advise directly on the agency’s rules and regulations, further eroding the SEC’s independence from the publicly traded companies it regulates. On September 19, the House approved H.R. 4790 by a vote of 215 - 203 (House roll call vote 435). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
