2024 Recent Vote
Representative Bruce Westerman (R-AR) sponsored H.R. 8790, the so-called Fix our Forests Act, which, under the guise of addressing wildfire concerns, would open access to millions of acres of federal land for logging without thorough scientific review and community input. The bill would roll back bedrock environmental laws, removing Endangered Species Act (ESA) consultation requirements and weakening or circumventing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) processes on millions of acres of federal public lands. It would stifle public input and also diminish the public’s rights to judicial review for potentially damaging projects, including shortening the review period after public notice to just 120 days. On September 24, the House approved H.R. 8790 by a vote of 268-151 (House roll call vote 448). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
