Representative Mark Amodei (R-NV) sponsored H.R. 8752, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2025, which would allocate $600 million in new border wall funding, among other harmful provisions. Billions in taxpayer dollars have been spent to build hundreds of miles of unnecessary, wasteful, and harmful border wall, which has had a negligible impact on securing the border while creating more harm to communities, lands, Indigenous sites and culture, and biodiversity. H.R. 8752 also includes numerous harmful poison pill policy riders that have little to do with homeland security, such as riders barring funds for women’s and transgender healthcare services, blocking rules designed to protect the endangered North Atlantic right whale and Rice’s whale from vessel strikes, and prohibiting efforts to promote racial justice and equity in federal agencies. On June 28, the House approved H.R. 8752 by a vote of 212-203 (House roll call vote 333). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
