Representative Gary Palmer (R-AL) sponsored H.R. 1023, the so-called Cutting Green Corruption and Taxes Act, which would rollback climate and environmental justice programs established in the Inflation Reduction Act and jeopardize clean air for our families and communities. The bill would repeal the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, which invests $27 billion of federal funding, and leverages a much larger amount of private investment, in financing critical climate and clean energy projects across the country and especially in underserved communities. H.R. 1023 would also repeal the Methane Emissions Reduction Program (MERP), which cuts dangerous methane and other air pollutants from the oil and gas industry. These important provisions create good-paying jobs, tackle climate change, and clean up the air we breathe, especially in communities of low-wealth and communities of color, which are disproportionately lacking in clean energy investments and on the frontlines of oil and gas drilling.
