2023 Scorecard Vote
Representative Mike Simpson (R-ID) sponsored H.R. 4821, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2024, which would cut spending on environmental programs to the lowest levels in decades, including a 40% cut to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It would completely zero out spending on environmental justice programs, slash basic clean air and water protections and environmental cleanup programs, and rescind funding for critical Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) programs like the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. It would also mandate fossil fuel lease sales and imperil critically endangered species, among dozens of other damaging provisions. On November 3, the House approved H.R. 4821 by a vote of 213-203 (House roll call vote 597). The Senate did not consider this legislation or any Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill in 2023.
