2023 Scorecard Vote
Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) sponsored an amendment to H.R. 4821, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2024, which would prohibit any funding for the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Workgroup. This amendment would block efforts to reduce pollution and climate threats in communities on the front lines of our nation’s most dangerous environmental and health hazards. For too long, communities of color and low-wealth communities have been forced to bear the brunt of pollution, and it is critical that our federal programs, policies, and agency workforce focus on remedying this injustice. On November 3, the House approved the Roy amendment by a vote of 212-204 (House roll call vote 594). The House passed H.R. 4821 on November 3. The Senate did not consider this legislation or any Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill in 2023.
