2021 Scorecard Vote
Representative Terri Sewell (D-AL) sponsored H.R. 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021. This bill would defend against inequitable voting practices by restoring the full protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. As hundreds of anti-voter bills have been filed in state legislatures across the country, upholding and updating civil rights protections will help protect voters from disenfranchisement and suppression. This legislation is a critical step toward ensuring that communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis across the country have their access to the ballot box protected. On August 24, the House approved H.R. 4 by a vote of 219-212 (House roll call vote 260). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The Senate rejected a motion to invoke cloture on the companion legislation (S.4) in 2021.
