House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chair Peter DeFazio (D-OR) sponsored H.R. 3684, the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act, which will revamp our crumbling transportation and water infrastructure while tackling the climate crisis and prioritizing environmental justice. This important $715 billion investment would fund projects to repair and revitalize roads, bridges, and rail, and boost the transition to zero-emissions vehicles. Additionally, it authorizes funding to replace lead service lines in homes and remove lead fixtures in schools, requires EPA to set standards for PFAS and other toxic chemicals in drinking water, invests in drinking water and wastewater infrastructure, provides funding for climate adaptation and resiliency, and establishes a low-income water assistance program at the EPA.. On July 1, the House approved H.R. 3684 by a vote of 221 to 201 (House roll call vote 208). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
