1978 Scorecard Vote
The vote is on the Edgar amendment to the same bill (H.R. 12928). The amendment would have prohibited using any funds in the fiscal 1979 appropriations for eight water projects which Congress had agreed to halt in 1977 at the urging of the President. The next year the Appropriations Committee decided to fund these projects anyway. They were: the Meramac Park Dam in Missouri, Bayou Bodcau in Louisiana; La Farge Dam in Wisconsin; Lukfata Dam in Oklahoma; the Yatesville Dam in Kentucky; the Savory-Pot Hook in Colorado and Wyoming; and the Fruitland Mesa and Narrows Dams, both in Colorado. All these projects were fiscally irresponsible and damaging to the environment. Several were also dangerous to public safety. The Carter Administration lobbied in favor of the Edgar amendment to cut out these projects. Rejected 142-234. June 15, 1978. YES is the correct vote.
