Stymieing Public Lands Conservation
House Roll Call Vote 165
Issue: Public Lands & Oceans
Representative John Curtis (R-UT) sponsored H.R. 3397, the so-called Western Economic Security Today (WEST) Act of 2023, which would require the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to withdraw the Conservation and Landscape Health Rule. This critical rule would improve the stewardship of millions of acres of federally owned lands across the United States and ensure conservation and recreation on public lands are no longer disfavored compared with extractive uses. On April 30, the House approved H.R. 3397 by a vote of 212-202 (House roll call vote 165). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
