1973 Voto de la Tarjeta de Evaluaciones
Lujan amendment to the Public Works-AEC appropriations bill (H.R. 8947) to add $4.7 million for geothermal energy research. Geothermal energy is a safe and readily available energy source that uses heat from the Earth to produce electrical energy. Already geothermal plants in northern California are generating 400,000 megawatts of electricity: eventually the are expected to provide one-fifth of the state's electrical power. Abundant supplies of geothermal energy are available elsewhere in the U.S. Conservationists support geothermal development, except where siting would impair outstanding geothermal phenomena such as in Yellowstone. The President did not take a position on the amendment. June 28, 1973. Adopted 206-205. Yes is the correct vote.
