2023 Scorecard Vote
Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN) sponsored an amendment to H.R. 4821, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2024, which would block funding for new national monument designations under the Antiquities Act. The Antiquities Act is a critical conservation law that empowers presidents to designate naturally, culturally, or historically significant federal lands or waters as national monuments. The tool has longstanding bipartisan support and has been used by 18 presidents – nine Democrats and nine Republicans – since its establishment. Prohibiting funding for these protective designations will destroy one of the most important tools we have to preserve our nation’s lands, waters, cultures, and history. On November 2, the House rejected the Ogles amendment by a vote of 175-244 (House roll call vote 592).
