Clean Air Act III
House Roll Call Vote 267
Issues: Transportation, Air
(H.R. 6161): The vote is on the Dingell amendment which substitutes a new Title II. The amendment delayed auto emissions compliance schedules for four years (1978-1982), permanently weakened the nitrogen oxide standards from .4 to .2 grams per mile (a 500% increase), and weakens warranties for emission control devices, regulations for assembly line testing and inspection and maintenance. Nitrogen oxide is a major source of lung and respiratory problems, smog and eye irritation. Adopted 255-139. May 26, 1977. NO is the correct vote.
