Federal Election Campaign Practices Act (HR 11060 and HR 11231). The bill required radio and television stations to sell time to political candidates at the lowest unit rate to make it easier for candidates without large bankrolls to make their views known to the voters. The vote is on the Pickle amendment to weaken this provision so broadcasters could charge rates comparable to those for commercial advertisements. The Nixon Administration took no position on the vote. (Adopted 219-150. Nov. 29, 1971. "No" is the correct vote.)
